Cowboy Crisis Fund

The Cowboy Crisis Fund was established in 1998. The fund was created to provide need-based financial assistance to persons injured through their involvement in the sport of rodeo within Ontario. Individuals eligible to receive assistance include contestants injured during a rodeo as well as others involved in the sport such as contract acts, workers, clowns and other rodeo personnel. The fund may also provide assistance to dependants of an injured person.
The crisis fund is affiliated with the Ontario Rodeo Association but is run as its own entity, with its own directorship and by-laws. This is a new organization. When the fund learns of a potential beneficiary it will examine several factors to determine whether benefits should by provided.
The criteria would include:

    1. The nature and severity of the injury on precipitating event
    2. The involvement of the person in the ORA
    3. The person’s ability to keep working
    4. Any other special needs

The Cowboy Crisis Fund hopes to allocate assistance money as a monthly living expense during the person’s time of recovery.
The organization is volunteer based. The Ontario Rodeo Association generally supplies the venue for fund raising events. We are hoping to involve more corporate sponsors and increased private donations. Through the generosity of volunteers, we have been able to dedicate every dollar raised to the Crisis Fund.
